My first Rant.

Sat Mar 21, 2009, 6:30 PM
Last Sunday as I sat in Sunday school at my church, a person in my class made a statement "I hate Rednecks, their all a bunch of hicks and .....". Well that got me mad. First and for most i consider myself in that category. and i had to defend myself. i went into a long debate with this fellow on what i means to be a redneck. he said that
1 rednecks are dumb.
2 rednecks live in trailers
3 rednecks are backwoods and there for should not be even talked to.

Now anybody that knows me will tell you that i may not like what you say but I'll fight to the death to defend your right to say it, but if not for the fact we where in church i would have knocked his teeth down his throat. (Yeah i know) so i told him a little bit of history behind the term redneck

The National Covenant and The Solemn League and Covenant (also known as Covenanters) signed documents stating that Scotland desired a Presbyterian Church government, and rejected the Church of England as their official church (no Anglican congregation was ever accepted as the official church in Scotland). In doing so, the Covenanters rejected episcopacy—rule by bishops—the preferred form of church government in England. Many of the Covenanters signed these documents using their own blood, and many in the movement began wearing red pieces of cloth around their neck to signify their position to the public. They were referred to as rednecks.[1]

Large numbers of Scottish Presbyterians migrated from their lowland Scottish home to Ulster (the northern province of Ireland) during the plantation era. In the mid to late 18th century, they emigrated again to North America in considerable numbers, comprising the largest group of immigrants to the American colonies from the British Isles before the American Revolution.[2] This etymological theory holds that since many Scots-Irish Americans and Scottish Americans who settled in Appalachia and the South were Presbyterian, the term redneck was used for them and their descendants.
so after telling him this i answered his 3 things about rednecks.

1 rednecks are not dumb people. some of us are in the highest levels of office. we are doctors, lawyers, and various other jobs. I for one come from one of the best schools in the South me and Dmajorboss went to school together. and the school this guy went to, well any way.
2 yes i live in a trailer, but at the moment so does a lot of people and the way our economy is you can't blame anybody.
3 yes there have been a few rednecks that have given us all a bad name, but you can't judge us all.
But I'll admit there are a few of us that make the rest look bad, i don't need to name them you see them everywhere.(not the Foxworthy gang) but their funny to us and we keep them around.

So in the end i made my point and walked away, you see the thing is we are everywhere. we are your doctors and lawyers. We are the police. We are all over the world, and yes we have been in space. so just remember the next time you try to insult one of us you better be ready to back your words up.

What an asshole!! But yeah I know how some people make comments without really trying to find out facts first.
I tend to judge people on how they treat me personally and not what they look like or what term best describes them. I've known rednecks and most of them are pretty cool to me.
The trailer comment I thought was pretty good. As far as I know it doesn't matter if you live in a house or trailer both are considered homes and you get the same benefits. Trailers just cost less than a "normal" homes.
Your third point is also very vaild. Not just for rednecks but for really every race and group.

His "logic" holds many flaws man...the kid didn't now what they were talking about.

If one were to truly go by the stereotypes of what a redneck is "supposed" to be, then I guess they'd figure that blacks are "gangsta rappers who eat watermelon, are violent, and have no common sense." Growing up, we both know this not to be the case.

Yeah, there are those out there who do live up to the stereotype, but judging all by the actions of a few is pretty closed-minded.

Anyway, nice to know that you handled this well. A punch might have made things worse...but I'm sure that it would have felt good to do.

All that has ever been created was done so for a reason, even if that reason is just for it to be.
:icontalonalmasy:
i know right. but if i would have punched him i just would have made the stereotype true. anyway i just have to rememebr it's wwjd, not wwcnd

Hahah, true enough. As satisfying as it would be, acting would just give him reason to believe his own spew.
